Date: 13th Feb 2021 Author: Alex Hazle

The Scout section had a brilliant Zoom evening in January with Mark Thompson, learning all about the Solar System, eclipses, tides and lots of other insights.

Fans of BBC Stargazing Live might know Mark for his phenomenal knowledge of astronomy and aim of inspiring youngsters.

Everyone joined in the session and lots of newly awarded Astronomer badges were much deserved. Thanks to Mark for joining us.

Since the session with the 69th, Mark has been in the news for meteorological reasons and not astronomical ones – when Storm Darcy hit East Anglia hard in early February, Mark responded to a call for a 4×4 owner to rescue an ambulance and car stuck in drifting snow, also rescuing another car stuck in a ditch on his way. Poor Mark only got back home at 5am! Read more about the story here.
