We did it!

Trekquinox is an annual Scout hiking challenge, held over the vernal equinox.

Starting at Cleeve Hill campsite at sunset this 12-hour hike challenges the scouts to walk up to 22 miles around the North of Bath before the sun comes up again. This year was the 5th Trekquinox and the biggest one yet, with over 200 scouts and explorers from Bath, Bristol and Wiltshire starting the hike.  The 69th put forward two teams this year.

Trekquinox is about challenging yourself, and also knowing yourself. It’s about teamwork, and individual strength.

One of our teams retired half way around having put in a great performance.  Our other team though had attempted the hike last year,  so knew what to expect. They were determined to complete the challenge this time.

Harry was on the team that completed the full course. He said ” Trekquinox was a truly great experience. Whilst attempting to finish it, even thorugh we got lost we kept courage and kept moving forwards. We were telling each other we would be the first from 69th Bath to complete it.  It was important to us to not give up. I felt very proud of our achievement. Next year, we will be even quicker.”

One of the other team members said ‘It was hard but I loved it. We worked as a team, I was the slowest at some points but it didn’t matter because everyone worked together. When some of the team had a bit of a hard moment, other people even carried their bags for a bit to give them some help. It felt like we were really together ”

We are so proud of our scouts for their navigation, their team spirit and their resilience. And delighted that they set out to complete the hike – and succeeded.
