Bushcraft and skills at Tedbury Camp
Summer came early as Scouts congregated at Tedbury Camp this half term. It was a gem of a site near Frome that we haven’t visited before. Six young people were on their first weekend with the older section, whilst three of our phenomenal teenagers moved onto Explorers after this camp. Bluebells, woodpeckers at 6.30am, and tawny owls by night set the scene of this beautiful woodland treasure.

We thoroughly enjoyed testing our brand new Coleman event shelter and tables, provided through a very generous recent donation. This equipment makes such a difference to how we can operate. Thank you.
Friday night provided a quick recap on how to put up a tent, and enjoyed meatball subs courtesy of leader Matt.
Saturday morning saw Scouts learn how to safely use knives to make a tent peg, axe skills, and sawing logs for the fire. Fire lighting skills were put to good test getting the blaze going for backwoods cooking over lunch.
Scouts made dough from scratch, and cooked ‘calzone al forno’ with wild garlic pesto made by Amuri, Bess and team. The afternoon provided a refresh on compasses, a short navigation hike, and shelter building in the woods. We ended the evening with a campfire after a delicious Mexican dinner.
Sunday brought camp to a close, enjoying a hike around the local valley and a final lunch together. New friendships formed, skills developed, and the troop really came together. A perfect start to the summer adventures!
Thank you to all our leaders specially Matt who travelled from London, and to East Somerset Scouts for your hospitality.
