Evolutionary Cubs
Jack, (9) reports:
We went to Evolution and did many amazing things! Evolution is a 2 day and night Cubs camp where over 850 cubs turned up.
On Friday I had an inset day, and (unwillingly) spent all day helping our leaders Em and Sam put up all the tents for our 17 cubs that turned up later.(We were grateful, thanks Jack! – Leaders) As a reward I got pizza, sprite and my choice of tent. In the evening we got to enjoy the entertainment – a disco, a cinema and a big space to play games in. My particular favourite was the merch shop, although the other cubs really enjoyed the tuck shop.
On the Saturday, we did the main event – we walked about 15 miles, 23k steps in teams of 4-5. We had to navigate between activities and complete challenges to earn points. My team was ‘Roaring Moon’. Challenges included zorbing (I accidentally squashed a cameraman – oops) (he was fine, so was Jack – Leaders) , human Tik Tak Toe and created Ooblek (a kind of mucky cornflour/water slime). It was very hot and we all complained at times, but we did lots of fun things, got through it as a team and made it back to the campsite. On Saturday evening we saw a man playing with fire which was very cool.
There was lots of music and dancing. We listened to the YMCA, we listened to the YMCA, we listened to the YMCA, we listened to the YMCA, we listened to the YMCA etc (you get the idea…). I met a lion. AN ACTUAL L I O N. I spent most of my time (and money) at the merchandise shop!
On Sunday there was a fair, with some sports competitions ( which our team WON!) , meeting animals (a snake!), bubbles and inflatables. At the end after we’d packed the tents down and everyone else had gone home, there was FREE ICE CREAM AND SAUCE WITH SPRINKLES ON TOP! The leaders wondered where on earth we had got to. ( Note from the leaders – we had a very good idea where they were…)
EVOLUTION IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to back to go back next year.
A note from the leaders – Evolution was an amazing adventure for us all. There were brilliant challenges, from our first two night camp with these cubs to hot weather and the fabled friday night soup, not to mention the actual Saturday challenge. Our cubs did us all proud, working in teams to complete as many of the stations as they could, exploring with confidence and independence. In the final rankings, they came an admirable 14th, 15th, 28th and 42nd!
