Come and join us as a membership coordinator

Date: 15th Sep 2025 Author: jenny stephens

Are you a good communicator? Do you have a great eye for detail? If so, we could use your talents to help transform the lives of young people in our local community.

Our group membership coordinator assists by providing the interface between potential members and the group.

Demand for places is high, testament to the fantastic reputation of 69th Bath. We are looking for our next team member to ensure that the best quality scouting can be delivered to young people in our sections. The role plays a very important part in the running of our group. In fact, we could not function properly without it!

Although the title makes it sound very formal, it is not like that at all. You’ll be responding to email queries from prospective members. You’ll advise them on when places might be available to join. In time, you’ll then work alongside the leadership volunteers to help move young people into Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts, depending on their age.

This is a rewarding role and is ideal for someone who would like to support local scouting but not by working directly with young people. Why not support the growth and development of young people and our leadership team by taking on this vital role.

No previous experience of scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values. We provide a warm welcome, a sociable network and a short online training module to help you get started as well as lots of ongoing support. It is helpful if you have some basic knowledge of Excel and can work Microsoft Outlook for email. All training will be provided.

We know that life can be busy, so we’re all about flexibility: This is a very flexible role which you can fit around your family, work and social commitments and other than the odd pre-planned meeting you can fit things around you. You could also easily share this role with one or two others to spread the tasks and is ideal for someone (or a team).

The role involves checking emails twice a week, maintaining a simple spreadsheet, and once a quarter (before new terms start) coordinating with the leaders who will move up and who will join. We can help you do it on a tablet, phone or computer.

Being just a small part of Scouting is great fun and it goes without saying that supporting young people can be one of the most rewarding things you can do, plus it all looks good on your CV.
