Morse code evening

Report by Henry Dowling

For this evening at Cleeve Hill campsite, we were learning Morse code, which is a series of dots and dashes. So, to learn Morse code we brought our torches, this was because we would be trying to send messages using Morse code. Most of the messages were one word, but some were a phrase. A dash was a long period of time when light was shown, a dot was a quick flash of the light and in between letters there was no light for a long time. We also learned what the army used and still use to communicate – this is what each letter was:

A = Alpha

B = Bravo

C = Charlie

D = Delta

E = Echo

F = Foxtrot

G = Golf

H = Hotel

I = India

J = Juliet

K = Kilo

L = Lima

M = Mike

N = November

O = Oscar

P = Papa

Q = Quebec

R = Romeo

S = Sierra

T = Tango

U = Uniform

V = Victor

W = Whiskey

X = X-ray

Y = Yankee

Z = Zulu.

This evening was lots of fun and exciting, especially because you worked as a team and were able to come up with the messages yourself.
