The Ripple Effect

Date: 19th Nov 2024 Author: jenny stephens
Whilst based in Bath, The Ripple Effect is a charity operating in the rural communities of east Africa.
Guest speaker Jackie took Cubs and Scouts on a journey through how the charity helps young people to gain skills. She explained how training and some basic farming equipment plus a chicken or two enables communities to gain food, produce to sell, perhaps start businesses and gain an enhanced resilience to climate events.
The ‘ripple’ occurs when one trained individual goes on to share knowledge with numerous neighbours, spreading the impact more widely. It’s a powerful message.
Families from 69th Scouts generously donated £70 which will go straight to supporting the charity’s work.
We finished the evening by discussing COP29 and making our own pledges to the planet, seeing how we can reduce our environmental impact locally.
Thank you Jackie for vividly bringing the Ripple Effect to life and giving such an insight to how the charity works.
